Payroll & Travel Accounting Manager

The Payroll & Travel Accounting Manager is part of the Corporate Shared Service Finance Team and is responsible for all payroll, benefits, and travel expense accounting as well as time and labor costing. The Payroll Accounting & Travel Manager reports to the Senior Manager of Payroll and Expense and works closely with Travel, HR, Payroll, IT, Accounting, Finance and Business Operations. This position will manage a team of 10 employees including 5 direct reports which consist of two supervisors and three senior/lead accountants. Team members are located in Marlton, NJ and one in Ft Worth, TX. Travel is estimated at 10%.


  • Manage the month end and year end close for all payroll and benefit related liabilities and travel expenses
  • Manage Trust and Pension related accounting and accounting and analysis of self-funded insurance plans.
  • Manage the IBNR (incurred but not reported) liability for both PAE and the Trust
  • Manage and ensure accurate and timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations for all benefit and payroll related liability and other accounts
  • Review and approve payroll, benefit, and travel expense related accruals at month and year end
  • Act as functional lead responsible for documenting, maintaining, understanding system architecture and interfaces with benefit providers, general ledger databases, and Deltek Etime travel expense and labor system
  • Understand and provide payroll accounting support between Joint Ventures to ensure proper financial reporting of payroll and payroll related transactions
  • Partner with Corporate Benefits HR team to understand implications of benefit decisions on accounting and payroll processes and interfaces
  • Partner with the Payroll department, Payroll Processing Manager and IT for system related upgrades, consolidations, changes related to Deltek Time and Labor Costing.
  • Take initiative to streamline processes and seek opportunities for standardization and optimization in all aspects of time, labor and reconciliations
  • Act as functional leader to ensure successful integration for new programs and projects
  • Support key leading performance indicators and track progress vs. targets
  • Manage the performance of direct reports by defining responsibilities, establishing performance objectives and providing feedback and guidance
  • Create staff specialists with system and process expertise while fostering cross training
  • Lead external and internal audit functions for payroll, labor and travel expense related items


The Position Requires a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience in public accounting and/or in a corporate accounting department. CPA or CPA candidate preferred. Candidate should be able to demonstrate systems proficiency and experience with internal controls, consolidation, reconciliations and GAAP.

Proven supervisory experience and the ability to work and interact with departments throughout the organization are required. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated; results driven individual who possesses good written and oral communication skills. Candidate should be able to work independently, self-review, have the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment. Experience with government contracts, Deltek Costpoint, and COGNOS are desirable. Microsoft Excel proficiency required.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
